I used to think that when life gets disrupted, everything else falls apart with it. If my routine was interrupted, I’d quickly feel overwhelmed, lose momentum, and struggle to get back on track.
The last few weeks put that belief to the test.
I spent two incredible weeks travelling through Egypt, exploring ancient history, cruising the Nile, and making unforgettable memories. But returning home was a different story. My house was in the middle of renovations, contractors were coming and going, there was noise everywhere, and normal life felt completely upside down. Work routines were disrupted, my environment was chaotic, and it would have been very easy to feel stressed and out of control.
A few years ago, that’s exactly what would have happened.
My healthy habits would have disappeared, my exercise routine would have stopped, and I would have spent weeks trying to regain focus and motivation. The disruption would have dictated how I showed up in every area of my life.
This time, however, something was different.
Over the years, I’ve intentionally built strong routines and habits. They aren’t complicated or restrictive, but they provide a framework that helps me stay grounded. Because those habits have become part of my daily life, I was able to step back into my gym routine, healthy eating, and business planning much more easily than I ever could before.
Was it perfect? Not at all.
There were still moments when I felt overwhelmed and had to remind myself to focus on what I could control rather than what I couldn’t. But the foundation was already in place. Instead of starting from scratch, I simply returned to the systems that support me.
That’s the true power of consistency.
We often think routines are designed for the good days when everything is running smoothly. In reality, routines are most valuable during the challenging seasons. They provide stability when life feels uncertain and help us keep moving forward even when circumstances are less than ideal.
You don’t build routines for the easy days—you build them so they can carry you through the messy ones.
If you’d like to create strong, consistent habits that help you stay focused, productive, and resilient when life gets challenging, I’d love to help. Join me at my next The Organised Life Workshop, where you’ll learn practical strategies to build routines that stick, create systems that support your goals, and develop habits that keep you moving forward—even when life feels chaotic.
Because success isn’t about being perfect. It’s about having the right habits in place to help you keep going, no matter what life throws your way.
Ready to get seriously organised? Join me at the next workshop and start building the habits your future self will thank you for.
